Presenting VR and spatial technology projects at the JISC Wales XR Conference

In March 2025, I had the opportunity to present at the JISC Wales XR Conference, sharing insights into the role of immersive technology in education and healthcare.

I presented the ongoing VR in Dementia project — demonstrating how virtual environments and nostalgia therapy can support memory recall, emotional wellbeing, and patient dignity for individuals living with dementia.

Beyond the dementia project, the session opened up valuable discussions around a range of emerging technology initiatives currently underway at Gower College Swansea. Topics included the use of 3D scanning, VR, AR the integration of NFC tags for student support, and innovative uses of AI to transform curriculum design and student engagement.

The event was a brilliant platform for showcasing how spatial technologies — VR, AR, and 3D scanning — are not only being embedded into our own practice, but are also opening wider conversations about inclusivity, accessibility, and meaningful digital transformation across education and healthcare sectors.

It was exciting to contribute to the growing XR discussion in Wales and to highlight the importance of using immersive technology to push boundaries, create positive change, and better support diverse learner needs.
