Creating NFC Tags for local business
Students support local business with 3D-printed NFC solutions.
This project involves students from the HND Business course at Gower College. I went in to show the students some NFC (Near Field Communication) LinkedIn keychains I had made, and wanted to offer an opportunity for them to make some for themselves, with my support. (NFC, or Near Field Communication, uses small chips that can send links—like to a LinkedIn profile—when tapped with a phone. It’s the same tech used for contactless payments.) After discussing this project with the HND students I asked them what their thoughts were on trialling this for a bsiness within the hospitality sector, in an attempt to upgrade table order QR codes with easier NFC tags. This idea was given by me but the students absilutely ran with it more than I could have ever imagined. After two inspiring meetings with the students we have decided to not run before we can walk, and instead trial these NFC tags with one of the students own businesses, a petting farm owned and run by William Evans.
This project is still ongoing. Students have started to produce 2D designs for the NFC tags and will next be using TinkerCad to produce a 3D Printable tag.
