Gateway to Sketty Hall
Bringing our Sketty Hall Campus to life in 3D and AR to inspire future business leaders.
This project brings together HND Business students and immersive 3D technology to create an innovative digital marketing experience for prospective learners. I was fortunate enough to present some examples Gaussian Splatting to the Business HND Students whilst working with them on creating NFC Tags for one of the students businesses.
Students were inspired by the Gaussian Splat work — where real-world locations were scanned into interactive 3D models — and have now developed a unique plan to promote the HND Business programme based at Sketty Hall campus.
Students are designing NFC tags that, when scanned with a phone, will instantly link to a 3D digital twin of the Sketty Hall campus — allowing prospective Level 3 Business students to explore the campus virtually.
Students joined in with the drone scanning of Sketty Hall to learn firsthand how 3D models are created, gaining insights into photogrammetry and spatial capture technologies.
This is as far as the project has gotten to, but our next step plans are as follows:
Using Niantic 8th Wall, students will help build an Augmented Reality experience where the 3D model of Sketty Hall can be placed directly onto a table via mobile devices — offering an engaging and futuristic way to promote the programme.
The HND Business students will also design the physical NFC tags 3D print them ready for the L3 class to use.
The goal of this project is to inspire Level 3 Business students by showcasing the opportunities available through the HND Business programme in a creative, interactive, and memorable way — blending technology, marketing, and storytelling. It will also give our HND students skills and expertise in emerging technologies like NFC, 3D scanning, and AR, preparing them for future roles in an increasingly tech-driven business environment.
