AR Flashcards for Criminology Revision

Bringing criminology revision to life with student-created AR flashcards.

Criminology students Eljada and Hallie have developed an innovative set of Augmented Reality (AR) flashcards to support future students in their revision and exam preparation. Their project aims to blend traditional study techniques with cutting-edge technology, making revision more interactive, memorable, and engaging.

Before creating the flashcards, Eljada and Hallie explored three AR development tools:

  • 8th Wall: They initially considered 8th Wall for AR creation but found it too complex for the needs and timeframe of their project.

  • Zapworks: They also looked into Zapworks, which offered suitable features but was ultimately too expensive.

  • Adobe Aero: Aero is already readily available at the college and both Eljada and Hallie therefore decided to use Adobe Aero, which is also relatively user friendly.

The flashcards were designed in Canva with criminology revision topics clearly and attractively laid out. Each flashcard is paired with an AR experience that can be activated through a QR code which can be scanned with a smartphone or tablet.

To the left is a video demonstrating how to use the flashcards, first you scan a QR code, then point your phone at the associated image to see the interactive AR experience.

Below is a galllery of flash cards and their associated QR codes created by Eljada for this projects. First Scan the QR code and open the Adobe Aero Link. After Open and then continue you should be prompted to point your phone at an image. Navigate to that image in the Gallery and point your phone at it. Click images from the gallery to below to enlarge them.

This project is still ongoing, the next and final step is to print the flashcards on glossy card and then present to the criminology team.
